South Africa, found at the base of the great continent, has an immensely varied terrain supporting a rich diversity of animals, birds and plant-life. It provides an enormous range of experiences from safaris on the dusty plains in the north, to drinking fine wine in the vineries of the Cape, to surfing up and down the coast. The Kruger, the iconic Table Mountain, The Drakensberg and Lesotho are just a few of its famous top spots.
Culturally too, South Africa won’t disappoint as its steeped in history; from the impact of colonialism, to the The Boer War, to the beloved Nelson Mandela – the influences of which can be seen everywhere. This is a must-see country for any traveller and a great place to start exploring this amazing continent.
Getting around is pretty cheap but food and accommodation will be pitched similar to European destination. Safari in the Krugar is expensive, but a must, so budget accordingly.
